Our Commitment to the Environment

At SABOR BIO, we believe that protecting the environment is not optional – it's a responsibility. That's why we’ve made a serious commitment to sustainability, grounded in three core principles: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. This approach goes beyond legal compliance – it’s part of who we are.

Reduce

We use only what’s strictly necessary. Our packaging is designed to respect the content, reduce material waste, and promote efficiency from the start:

  • Packaging is precisely sized to avoid excess material.
  • Our juices are produced without added water, allowing customers to dilute them at home and get the most out of every drop.
  • We've adopted a minimalist design that prioritizes functionality and sustainability: small, discreet, and informative labels, and single-material plastic (polypropylene), chosen for its high recyclability and compatibility with sorting station requirements.
  • The cups we use for product tastings are reused.

In 2024, the mix of packaging introduced to the market by SABOR BIO was distributed as follows:

86%

glass

(953 kg)

14%

paper / cardboard

(150 kg)

0,45%

plastic

(5 kg)

These numbers reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainable, reusable solutions, prioritizing materials with lower environmental impact and greater circular potential.

Reuse

We’ve chosen to go beyond recycling. We've implemented a glass packaging collection and reuse system to reduce energy and resource consumption.

You can return your bottles and jars to the stores where you bought our products or at the events we attend. For each returned item at an event, we offer a discount.

All returned packaging is carefully cleaned and disinfected in compliance with strict hygiene standards. The same applies to the tasting cups we reuse at events.

Currently, due to logistical constraints, this system is not available for online orders or purchases outside Portugal. In these cases, we encourage correct sorting and recycling of packaging.

Thanks to the commitment of our customers, SABOR BIO has already reused over

375

packages, extending material life cycles and reducing environmental impact in a concrete way.

Return Conditions:

  • Only SABOR BIO packaging is accepted.
  • Packages don’t need to be washed, but should be rinsed.
  • Damaged packaging will not be accepted.

Recycle

In partnership with Sociedade Ponto Verde, we ensure that our packaging waste is correctly routed. All our packaging is recyclable and should be placed in the appropriate recycling bins:

Green: Glass bottles and jars (with caps included)

Yellow: Snack wrappers and foam protection

Blue: Cardboard boxes and paper bags

Bottle Caps

Green on the outside and the inside

Did you know that all our caps are under 5 cm in diameter? According to Sociedade Ponto Verde, this means they should be placed together with the bottles and jars in the green recycling bin, not the yellow one.

This small technical detail makes a big difference. When disposed of in the yellow bin, small caps may be missed during the sorting process, compromising their recycling. By keeping them tightly closed on the glass containers, you help ensure their proper recovery and reintegration into the circular economy.

Glass

Naturally Circular

Glass is a material with unique properties in the context of a circular economy: it can be recycled infinitely without losing quality, making it a prime choice for sustainable packaging.

At SABOR BIO, we prioritize glass for its durability, safety, and long-term environmental advantages.

In addition to being 100% recyclable, glass is inert, stable, and safe – ideal for preserving the quality of our products without any risk of chemical migration into the contents.

At SABOR BIO, we go further by reusing glass bottles whenever possible, collected through our packaging reuse program, extending their lifecycle in a responsible and efficient way.

Recycling glass allows for:

  • Raw material savings, using recycled glass (cullet) requires fewer natural resources. In fact, 1 ton of new glass can be produced from just 1 ton of cullet, compared to 1.2 tons of virgin materials;*

  • Lower energy consumption, every 10% increase in cullet content can reduce energy use in melting by around 2.5%;*

  • Reduced CO₂ emissions, both from the melting process and from the production of some raw materials (such as soda ash).*

* AIVE – Associação dos Industriais de Vidro de Embalagem

Plastic

At SABOR BIO, we reduce plastic use to the bare minimum.

When used, we choose polypropylene (PP) – a single-material, colorless plastic that is highly recyclable, with an optimized design to facilitate sorting. Our labels are small and discreet, reinforcing our commitment to efficient recycling.

To protect glass bottles during transport, we use low-density polyethylene (LDPE) protection. This material is lightweight, durable, and reusable. These protections can be used multiple times to transport your bottles safely and conveniently. When purchasing SABOR BIO products at a physical store, you can request one to take with you. You can reuse it to return empty bottles and bring back new ones. When it reaches the end of its life, it should be placed in the yellow recycling bin. If returned to us in good condition, we also reuse them.

Did you know:

  • According to the European Commission, 80–85% of marine litter in Europe is plastic – 50% from disposable items and 27% from fishing gear;
  • Since 1950, over 6 billion tons of plastic have been produced;
  • An estimated 80% of all plastic produced (4.8 billion tons) still remains on the planet;
  • Around half of marine litter consists of single-use plastics;
  • Without urgent measures, there may be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050.

Together, we can do more.

Our packaging is recyclable and reusable. Help us extend the lifecycle of materials and minimize environmental impact. If you don’t return it, please recycle.
